Organic rivet, grown for @pastificio_carleschi pasta, is our most delicate crop at this early stage but with the weather changing and plenty of weeds, it’s too tempting to miss the chance for a gentle harrow (🤞🏼I’m right)

At last a forage crop to be pleased with! 2025 up until September was diabolical for the herbal leys but the last 6 weeks have been superb - today we’ve managed to snatch a remarkably decent (and late) 3rd cut

We absolutely love the hares we have here but rather they didn’t reach up to chew off young trees, particularly rowan and crab apple! Extension guards going on which is disappointing but they’re temporary and will be reused on future plantings

I could get used to weather like this!

In the spring we hand sowed all 6 miles of our new agroforestry flowering understory - the drought killed the lot so this week we’re trying again (and have the backache to prove it)! @CotswoldSeeds

A brief brighter moment as we dodged the showers replacing a drought killed undersown herbal ley - seedbed only just good enough after the dramatic change from dry to wet, but it’s in!

Delighted to have hosted a large group of amateur ecologists today - entomologists, botanists, arachnologists and even lichenologists! A showery day but still hundreds of species found, some quite valuable including a scarce Lesne’s Earwig - the only non-flying UK earwig!

The remarkably early harvest of ‘25 is over with one of its better crops. Organic hulless naked barley (bred by @naked_barley) and combination crop carlin peas, both grown for @Hodmedods amongst the new agroforestry - a field full of wildlife and trailers full of nutritious food!
